An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a small chip soldered inside modern phones. Instead of slotting a tiny plastic card from a local carrier, you download a profile that turns on a second mobile line.
Why travellers love them
- No SIM swapping. Keep your home number for calls and 2FA, run a Simline data plan on top.
- Activate from anywhere. Buy and install before you fly, while you're still on home wifi.
- Run multiple plans at once. Hopping countries? Each leg gets its own eSIM and they coexist.
- Instant. The store-to-online time is measured in minutes, not airport queues.
How an eSIM works
Your phone supports several SIM slots, of which one or two are eSIM. When you buy a plan, we generate a one-time QR code. Scan it with the camera in Settings; iOS or Android pulls down the operator profile and you can switch your default data line to the new eSIM with a tap.
Install before you fly. The plan only starts the timer when you first connect to a network in the destination country — perfect for buying days in advance.
What an eSIM is not
It's not a virtual phone number — Simline plans are data-only, designed to replace roaming. You use your existing number for calls and SMS, and the eSIM line handles maps, social media, messengers, video, work email, everything that needs internet.
